Looks normal to me! You can get different sizes obviously and there are different types! You can cut down the girth strap and punch some new holes to fasten it on! As Ray says, you can get a cheap one on E-Bay!

Well saddles are made for horses, not humans, so it depends on the width of the horses back etc! They have to fit them right as they have them on for some time and they have the weight of a person on it too! For your purposes it wouldn't matter so much as it wouldn't be worn for that long!
